OSHA Compliance Services

The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of 1970 created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and over the years this organization has developed and adopted innumerable "standards", interpretations and directives dealing with the safety of the work place and the health of working men and women. The primary standard that applies to the medical industry is the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard, which was adopted and made part of the Federal Register on December 6, 1991.

Medical Management Associates, Inc. first developed an OSHA Compliance Manual ("OCM") for the medical practice back in the early 1990s. The OCM has been amended numerous times over the years as new standards have been adopted or existing standards have been revised.

The OSHA Compliance Manual is an easy-to-read adaptation of the two primary OSHA Standards related to the medical industry, namely, 29 CFR 1910.1030 (Bloodborne Pathogens Standard) and 29 CFR 1910.1200 (Hazard Communications Standard).

The OCM is customized for each client's practice based on a site visit or through interviews with key staff to determine specific physical facility compliance, affected personnel and procedures within the practice that offer potential exposure.

The specific services that MMA offers related to OSHA compliance include:

Development and preparation of an OSHA Compliance Manual including and Exposure Control Plan, Hazard Communications Plan and a Tuberculosis Exposure Prevention Plan. The information for preparation of these plans is obtained via:

  • A site visit to the practice to determine physical facility compliance, including the locations of sharps containers, bio-waste containers, hand-washing facilities and general safety issues and/or
  • Conducting an interview with key staff to determine physical facility compliance detailed above, if a visit is not feasible.
  • Determining those employees, who have potential exposure and determining the medical procedures which offer potential exposure.

Performance of OSHA compliance training for your practice, either through an in-person session utilizing a PowerPoint presentation with a laptop projector or through Internet link-up and telephone conference call. Annual training is required by law.

Please contact us if you would like MMA to assist you in the preparation of OSHA Compliance Manual or if you require on site or on-line training of your employees for OSHA compliance.
